Update (7:23 p.m. ET): The PGA Tour has issued a statement refuting the Golf.com report that Dustin Johnson was suspended for a failed drug test, Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel reports. “With regard to media reports that Dustin Johnson has been suspended by the PGA Tour,” the statement read, “this is to clarify that Mr. Johnson has taken a voluntary leave of absence and is not under a suspension from the PGA Tour.”

The PGA Tour has suspended golfer Dustin Johnson for six months for testing positive for cocaine amid rumors that the 30-year-old golfer also engaged in an affair with the wife of a fellow PGA Tour player.

The failed drug test is the third of Johnson’s career, a source familiar with the situation told Golf.com. He previously tested positive for cocaine in 2012 and 2014 and marijuana in 2009. Johnson reportedly served an unannounced suspension for the 2012 infraction.

In addition to his drug use, Johnson is said to have engaged in a “sexual indiscretion” with the wife of at least one PGA Tour player. In a Friday Twitter post, Fox Sports senior golf analyst Robert Lusetich elaborated on Johnson’s alleged romantic entanglements.

“Not a huge secret either that [Dustin Johnson] had affairs with 2 wives of PGA Tour players. One broke up the marriage,” Lusetich wrote, without elaborating on the other individuals affected by the alleged affair. Lusetich also quotes an unnamed PGA Tour pro as saying that Johnson’s “face turned white” when he learned that he would be drug-tested at the U.S. Open in June.

Johnson announced on Thursday that he would take a leave of absence from the PGA Tour. However, his statement made no mention of his suspension.

“I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced,” the statement said. “By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion.”

Similarly, the PGA Tour expressed its support for Johnson, but did not mention that he was serving a suspension. “We have nothing to add to Dustin’s statement. But wish him well and look forward to his return to the PGA Tour in the future,” the statement said.

Johnson has been involved in a high-profile relationship with model Paulina Gretzky –the daughter of NHL great Wayne Gretzky – since late 2012. The pair got engaged in August 2013. Gretzky has yet to respond to the news of her fiancé’s suspension or the rumors of his alleged “sexual indiscretion.”
