Express Scripts to buy Medco for $29 billion

We are about halfway through the second-quarter earnings season, and the financial sector definitely gave the season a flying start.

Of the 47 percent of the S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings so far, about 68 percent have topped profit forecasts, above the historical average of 63 percent. About 56 percent have reported better-than-expected revenue, a rate that is below the historical average, according to Thomson Reuters.

We ran a screen and produced a list of eight notable companies set to report their earnings on July 29. We have highlighted their expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings-per-share (fully reported) and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.

Monday Before Markets Open, or BMO:

Hertz Global Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HTZ), through its subsidiaries, engages in the car and equipment rental businesses worldwide. The company has a market capitalization of $10.75billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of 36 cents on revenue of $2.70 billion, compared with a profit of 21 cents a share on revenue of $2.23 billion in the year-ago period. Hertz Global Holdings Inc. is trading at around $26.86 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 65.1 percent.

Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE:SPG) operates as a self-administered and self-managed real-estate investment trust. The company has a market cap of $50.78 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of 86 cents on revenue of $1.24 billion, compared with a profit of 71 cents a share on revenue of $1.19 billion in the year-ago period. Simon Property Group is trading at around $163.79 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 3.6 percent.

Monday After Markets Close, or AMC:

American Capital Agency Corp. (Nasdaq: AGNC) is a real estate investment trust (REIT). The company has a market cap of $8.53 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of $1.00 on revenue of $357.30 million, compared with a loss of 88 cents a share on revenue of $384.00 million in the year-ago period. American Capital Agency Corp. is trading at around $21.51 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 25.6 percent.

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC) is an independent exploration and production company. The company has a market cap of $50.78 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of 91 cents on revenue of $1.24 billion, compared with a loss of 18 cents a share on revenue of $3.22 billion in the year-ago period. Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is trading at around $89.5 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 20.4 percent.

Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE: EMN) is a global specialty chemicals company that produces a range of advanced materials, chemicals and fibers that are found in products people use every day.

The company has a market cap of $11.68 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of $1.64 on revenue of $2.40 billion, compared with a profit of $1.27 a share on revenue of $1.85 billion in the year-ago period. Eastman Chemical Co. is trading at around $75.47 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 10.9 percent.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc (NYSE: HIG) is an insurance and financial services company. The company has a market cap of $14.34 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of 55 cents on revenue of $5.46 billion, compared with a loss of 26 cents a share on revenue of $4.57 billion in the year-ago period. Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. is trading at around $31.41 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 40.0 percent.

Manitowoc Company, Inc. (NYSE: MTW) is a multi-industry, capital goods manufacturer. The company has a market cap of $2.57 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 second-quarter EPS of 37 cents on revenue of $1.07 billion, compared with a profit of 32 cents a share on revenue of $1.01 billion in the year-ago period. Manitowoc Company Inc. is trading at around $19.27 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 22.9 percent.
