The third-quarter earnings season gets into high gear next week, with results coming from major industry players including: Amazon, AT&T, Microsoft, Eli Lilly, Bristol-Myers Squibb, United Parcel Service, Ford, Procter & Gamble and 3M.

Of the 7 percent of S&P 500 companies that have already reported quarterly results, 52.8 percent have reported profits that topped expectations, according to Thomson Reuters data, below the historical average of 63 percent. There have also been fewer companies beating revenue forecasts this quarter.

We ran a screen and produced a list of 49 notable companies set to report their earnings between Oct. 21 and Oct. 25. We've highlighted their expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings-per-share (fully reported) and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.

Monday Before Markets Open, or BMO:

Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL) is an oil-field-services company. The company has a market cap of $46.99 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 82 cents on revenue of $7.150 billion, compared with a profit of 65 cents a share on revenue of $7.11 billion in the year-ago period. Halliburton is trading at around $51.21 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 48.2 percent.

McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MCD) franchises and operates McDonald’s restaurants in the global restaurant industry. The company has a market cap of $93.75 billion. It's expected to report an FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.51 on revenue of $7.34 billion, compared with a profit of $1.43 a share on revenue of $7.15 billion in the year-ago period. McDonald's is trading at around $93.69 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 6.3 percent.

Monday After Markets Close, or AMC:

Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) is a direct banking and payment services company. The company has a market capitalization of $25.21 billion. It's expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.19 on revenue of $2.07 billion, compared with a profit of $1.21 per share on revenue of $1.96 billion in the year-ago period. Discover Financial Services is trading at around $51.94 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 35.0 percent.

Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) is an Internet subscription service streaming television shows and movies. The company has a market capitalization of $19.07 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 49 cents on revenue of $1.10 billion, compared with a profit of 13 cents a share on revenue of $905.09 million in the year-ago period. Netflix is trading at around $323.52 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 249.55 percent.

Texas Instruments Incorporated (Nasdaq: TXN) designs and makes semiconductors, which it sells to electronics designers and manufacturers globally. The company has a market capitalization of $44.48 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 53 cents on revenue of $3.23 billion, compared with a profit of 67 cents a share on revenue of $3.39 billion in the year-ago period. Texas Instruments is trading at around $40.38 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 30.8 percent.

Tuesday BMO:

AK Steel Holding Corporation (NYSE: AKS) is an integrated producer of flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels and tubular products. The company has a market capitalization of $597.08 million. It is expected to report a loss of 16 cents per share on revenue of $1.36 billion in the third quarter of fiscal year 2013, compared with a loss of 55 cents a share on revenue of $1.46 billion in the year-ago period. AK Steel Holding is trading at around $4.36 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 4.8 percent.

Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE: DAL) provides scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo throughout the United States and around the world. The company has a market capitalization of $20.71 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.37 on revenue of $10.46 billion, compared with a profit of $1.23 a share on revenue of $9.92 billion in the year-ago period. Delta Air Lines Inc. is trading at around $24.11 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 100.4 percent.

E I Du Pont De Nemours And Co (NYSE: DD) is a chemical company. The company has a market capitalization of $53.96 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 36 cents on revenue of $7.78 billion, compared with a profit of one cent a share on revenue of $7.39 billion in the year-ago period. DuPont is trading at around $58.36 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 29.8 percent.

EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) and its subsidiaries develops, delivers and supports the information technology industry's range of information infrastructure and virtual infrastructure technologies, solutions and services. The company has a market capitalization of $51.33 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 35 cents on revenue of $5.80 billion, compared with a profit of 28 cents a share on revenue of $5.28 billion in the year-ago period. EMC is trading at around $24.75 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 2.4 percent.

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (NYSE: FCX) is an international mining company. The company has a market cap of $35.38 billion. It's expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 60 cents on revenue of $5.69 billion, compared with a profit of 86 cents per share on revenue of $4.42 billion in the year-ago period. Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold is trading at around $34.10 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 0.3 percent.

Kimberly Clark Corp (NYSE: KMB) is engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of a range of products made from natural or synthetic fibers using advanced technologies in fibers, nonwovens and absorbency. The company has a market capitalization of $36.97 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.37 on revenue of $5.23 billion, compared with a profit of $1.30 a share on revenue of $5.25 billion in the year-ago period. Kimberly Clark is trading at around $96.68 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 14.3 percent.

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) is a global security and aerospace company principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of technology systems and products. The company has a market cap of $40.45 billion. It's expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $2.26 on revenue of $11.15 billion, compared with a profit of $2.21 per share on revenue of $11.87 billion in the year-ago period. Lockheed Martin is trading at around $126.13 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 36.6 percent.

McGraw Hill Financial Inc (NYSE: MHFI) is a financial intelligence company. The company has a market cap of $18.49 billion. It's expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 76 cents on revenue of $1.17 billion, compared with a profit of $1.10 per share on revenue of $1.95 billion in the year-ago period. Amgen, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMGN) is a global biotechnology pioneer that discovers, develops, manufactures and delivers human therapeutics. The company has a market capitalization of $83.95 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.66 on revenue of $4.60 billion, compared with a profit of $1.41 a share on revenue of $4.32 billion in the year-ago period. Amgen Inc. is trading at around $111.56 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 29.4 percent.

Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM) is a global semiconductor solution for wired and wireless communications. The company has a market capitalization of $15.35 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 40 cents on revenue of $2.13 billion, compared with a profit of 38 cents a share on revenue of $2.13 billion in the year-ago period. Broadcom is trading at around $26.51 a share. So far this year, the stock has lost 20.2 percent.

Wednesday BMO:

The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) is an aerospace company. The company has a market capitalization of $89.16 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.26 on revenue of $21.69 billion, compared with a profit of $1.35 a share on revenue of $20.01 billion in the year-ago period. The Boeing Company is trading at around $118.18 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 56.8 percent.

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) is a manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The company has a market capitalization of $55.53 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.77 on revenue of $14.40 billion, compared with a profit of $2.54 a share on revenue of $16.45 billion in the year-ago period. AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is a provider of telecommunications services in the U.S. and worldwide. The company has a market capitalization of $179.03 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 66 cents on revenue of $32.19 billion, compared with a profit of 63 cents a share on revenue of $31.46 billion in the year-ago period. AT&T is trading at around $33.71 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 0 percent.

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) designs, develops and markets technology solutions that enable information technology services. The company has a market capitalization of $10.71 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 40 cents on revenue of $716.70 million, compared with a profit of 41 cents a share on revenue of $641.42 million in the year-ago period. It is expected to report a loss of 10 cents a share in the third quarter of fiscal year 2013 on revenue of $16.77 billion, compared with a loss of 60 cents a share on revenue of $13.81 billion in the year-ago period. Amazon.com Inc. is trading at around $309.92 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 23.6 percent.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG) is an independent oil and gas company engaged in the development, exploitation and exploration of oil and gas properties. The company has a market capitalization of $15.77 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of 19 cents on revenue of $450.97 million, compared with a profit of 9 cents a share on revenue of $296.87 million in the year-ago period. Cabot Oil & Gas is trading at around $37.42 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 50.5 percent.

Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (NYSE: CLF) is an international mining and natural resources company. The company has a market capitalization of $3.47 billion. Express Scripts Holding Company is trading at around $63.92 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 18.4 percent.

Western Digital Corp. (Nasdaq: WDC) is a provider of solutions for the collection, storage, management, protection and use of digital content, including audio and video. The company has a market capitalization of $16.33 billion. It is expected to report FY 2014 first-quarter EPS of $1.86 on revenue of $3.78 billion, compared with a profit of $2.06 a share on revenue of $4.04 billion in the year-ago period. Western Digital is trading at around $69.24 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 63.0 percent.

Zynga Inc (Nasdaq: ZNGA) is a provider of social game services. The company has a market capitalization of $2.90 billion. It is expected to report a loss of 3 cents per share in the third quarter of fiscal year 2013 on revenue of $142.67 million, compared with a loss of 7 cents per share on revenue of $255.61 million in the second quarter. Friday BMO:

The Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE:PG) is focused on providing consumer packaged goods. The company has a market cap of $213.95 billion. It is expected to report FY 2014 first-quarter EPS of $1.04 a share on revenue of $21.07 billion, compared with a profit of 96 cents a share on revenue of $20.74 billion in the year-ago period. P&G is trading at around $78.16 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 15.1 percent.

United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE: UPS) is a package delivery company that operates in the U.S. less-than-truckload industry, and the provider of global supply chain management solutions. The company has a market capitalization of $85.68 billion. It is expected to report FY 2013 third-quarter EPS of $1.15 on revenue of $13.60 billion, compared with a profit of 48 cents a share on revenue of $13.07 billion in the year-ago period. UPS is trading at around $91.30 a share. So far this year, the stock has gained 23.8 percent.
