Sunday is Easter, one of the most important Christian holidays, during which people around the world will gather to observe Jesus’ resurrection three days after his crucifixion, as told in the Bible.

Easter follows the 40-day fasting period called Lent, during which many Christians repent, pray and fast. The Lenten season began Wednesday, Feb. 10, known as Ash Wednesday and was set to end on the day before Easter Sunday, called Holy Saturday.

Below are biblical passages, quotes and sayings to share this Easter:

Biblical Passages

— “But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5

— “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.” — Matthew 27:50-53

— “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.” — 1 Peter 2:24

— “And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” — Mark 10:34

— “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 6:8-11
