Google announced on Tuesday they will be bringing on ex-eBay exec Stephanie Tilenius as vice president of commerce.

The New York Times reported that Google has hired former eBay Tilenius as vice president of commerce, with orders to look over Google Checkout.

Google Checkout is a key part of Google's mobile strategy, however, serving as the payment processing platform for the Android Market and the only way to buy a Nexus One.

According to the report, If Google makes inroads into ecommerce, it could cause headaches for a number of online retailers, as many of them get a majority of their traffic from Google, both through Web search and search ads.

Since, 2001, Tilenius held a variety of executive roles at eBay. She was recently in charge of eBay North America and global product management for eBay Marketplaces.
