Ebony Magazine Trayvon Martin Covers: Dwyane Wade, Spike Lee, And Boris Kodjoe Wear Gray Hoodie In His Honor [PHOTO]

Ebony magazine has dedicated its September issue to Trayvon Martin following the acquittal of George Zimmerman for killing him. It is releasing not just one, but four powerful covers, three of which show celebrity black fathers with their sons wearing gray hoodies (as Martin was the night he was killed). The fourth cover is dedicated to Trayvon’s parents Sybrina Fulton, Tracy Martin and older brother Jahvaris Fulton.

The celebrity dads shown are movie producer Spike Lee, NBA star Dwyane Wade and actor Boris Kodjoe. “We Are All Trayvon … Save Our Sons,” the headline reads. The issues were inspired by “the watershed moment experienced by the Black community after the ‘not-guilty’ verdict in the George Zimmerman trial,” the editors of Ebony said.

Zimmerman killed unarmed 17-year-old Martin on Feb. 26, 2012, and a jury of six women found the 29-year-old not guilty on July 13, 2013, after three weeks of testimony.

The acquittal sparked protests around the world. The NAACP, for example, said it was “deeply troubled by the jury’s verdict. His unnecessary death exposes the entrenched nature of racial prejudice in our country and reflects the unfinished struggle to fulfill this country’s promise of racial equality and justice for all.”
