There are various reports suggesting that standup comedian Eddie Murphy could be the leading candidate or may be the finalized host for next year's Oscars.

No comments have been made so far by the representatives of the Academy.

A final decision is still pending and is expected to come out this week when producers Ratner and Don Mischer meet with Academy of Motion Pictures President Tom Sherak, The Times reported.

A Saturday Night Live veteran and an energetic comedian, Murphy's talent could be one of the best in the world historically to host the Oscars. Eddie Murphy is also popular for his movies Meet Dave and Norbit.

According to a Los Angeles Times report, the actor could have been picked because of his relationship with Brett Ratner, who is the director of the upcoming Tower Heist and is also the producer of the 2012 Oscars.
