Over 200,000 pounds of egg products are being recalled this week due to a potential Salmonella contamination. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Saturday, specific dried egg items from Nutriom LLC of Lacey, Wash. are being voluntary recalled due to the potential class one health hazard.

According to the FSIS press release, approximately 226,710 pounds of processed eggs, used in OvaEasy and Egg Crystal products, are included in the recall. The potentially defective products, which were produced between February 28, 2013 and February 8th, 2014, were reportedly shipped across the U.S., to U.S. military installations at home and abroad, as well as locations in Canada. According to the report, the Salmonella contamination, which can cause the bacterial disease Salmonellosis, is a result of a discrepancy in lab testing.

“The problem was discovered by Washington State Laboratories in response to a billing inquiry by Nutriom LLC,” said the FSIS, adding, “FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products.”

Following the voluntary recall, Nutroim released a statement, calling the recall merely a “precautionary measure." "We are very sorry for this disruption," said the company, requesting consumers not destroy the potentially damaging products, but instead ship them back to the Nutriom facility. “We are changing our documentation procedures to ensure this never happens again. We take food safety very seriously and ask for your help in this action,” the statement reads.

Affected customers looking to return their product(s) and receive either a refund or replacement, can contact Nutriom by calling: (306) 413-7269 or emailing: info@nutroim.com.
