Protests in Egypt continue as support wanes for President Mohamed Morsi. On Monday, the military issued an ultimatum that called for Morsi to negotiate with the protesters by Wednesday -- otherwise the military would step in with their own plans.

According to BBC News, the ultimatum expired at 4:30 p.m. local time or 10:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The protests which started on June 30 were triggered by the “ongoing economic crisis, a seizure of extra-judicial power in 2012, and his government’s mishandling of the constitutional drafting process,” according to a report by IBTimes.

Violence was reported in some areas and at least 16 people were reported dead at pro-Morsi rally Tuesday night.
