Roy (Robert Christopher Riley) accuses Marcus (Jon Michael Hill) of being responsible for Chantal’s (Chasten Harmon) assault in a sneak peek from Season 5, episode 21 of “Elementary.” CBS

Marcus (Jon Michael Hill) is not letting Roy (Robert Christopher Riley) get near Chantal (Chasten Harmon) in Season 5, episode 21 of “Elementary.”

In this week’s episode, Marcus’ girlfriend, Chantal, remains unconscious after being assaulted by an unidentified man at the end of last week’s installment. Due to Marcus’ previous run-ins with Chantal’s ex-husband, Roy, the former suspects that it was the latter who hurt Chantal. So when Marcus meets Roy at the hospital, as seen in a sneak peek from the episode, the detective’s anger takes over him, and he ends up slamming Roy against the wall. A security officer at the hospital quickly tries to break off the fight, but Marcus and Roy continue to yell at each other.

“Are you insane? You think there’s any way I’m letting you to get into her?” Marcus tells Roy.

When Roy replies that he just wants to talk to Chantal, Marcus accuses him of being responsible for what happened to Chantal. “You probably shouldn’t have tried to kill her last night,” the police detective says.

Apparently, that makes Roy upset, so he starts blaming Marcus for Chantal’s assault. “You think I don’t know what’s going on here detective? You did this to her. You hurt Chantal,” Roy claims. “The DNA match they found in the scene that was a nice touch but I was a cop, I know how this works. You call your friend at the lab. You make the DNA say whatever you want.”

The altercation ends when a police officer arrives at the scene and tells Roy that he can’t be at the hospital.

As a result of the fight, Captain Gregson (Aidan Quill) instructs Marcus to sit the case out, which he clearly understands. “He’s right,” Marcus tells Sherlock of Captain Gregson’s decision in another sneak peek from the episode. “I make a mistake because my head is not on straight, and now I’m the reason Roy walks. I’ll never forgive myself. Captain said sit tight, stay here with Chantal. He’s also gonna keep a uni on her door to make sure she’s safe.”

In an attempt to lift Marcus’ spirits, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) tells him that he knows what he’s going through. “I know how you are feeling,” the British sleuth says. “The woman you love has been hurt and you want with every fiber of your being to revenge her and yet you are powerless to do so. In my case, I disappeared, spiraled to self-destruction and despair and for a long time I was no good to anyone.”

When Marcus asks if Sherlock is giving him a pep talk, the latter replies: “It’s not a pep talk. You are right. Our situations are quite different. Unlike me, you have people who care about you to find justice for you. And I promise you, Marcus, justice will be done.”

Although Marcus has been ordered to stay away from looking into Roy’s possible connection Chantal’s assault, executive producer Rob Doherty revealed to TVLine that Marcus actually joins Sherlock on “a separate and perhaps more compelling investigation into Roy.”
