Ellen Page said the accusations against "X-Men" director Bryan Singer are "super disturbing." The Hollywood Reporter

“Juno” Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page, who recently revealed that she is gay, sat down for an extensive interview with the Hollywood Reporter, speaking in length about coming out and how she felt after she made her public statement. She also talked about the controversy plaguing openly gay director Bryan Singer, whom she is working with on “X-Men.” Singer has been accused of sexual assault on a minor.

The allegations are “super, super disturbing,” Page said. “I guess the truth will come out in the way that it does, but it's hard to hear about someone being in that situation, someone you like working with.”

Page, 27, has been working in the entertainment industry since she was 10 years old and is aware of the types of abuse that can occur behind doors in Hollywood. “Whatever comes of it,” she said, “I do think that there's a systemic issue of people in places of power manipulating and abusing young people.”

During the THR interview, Page explained why she waited so long to reveal her sexual orientation and said her job in Hollywood was one of the main excuses she used to prevent her from identifying as gay in public. “For so long I just sort of thought, 'You just can't. I love being an actor, it's a huge part of my life, so I'm going to keep that private.' And, 'Oh, I have to keep it private because my job is about creating an illusion' and kind of all those bullshit excuses," the actress said. "Because I don't see heterosexual actresses going to great lengths to hide their heterosexuality.”

Page will play Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which is slated to arrive May 23. The film also features Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Michael Fassbender and Peter Dinklage.
