Emma Roberts was arrested for domestic violence against her boyfriend, Evan Peters, in early July. Could the actress be channeling her new character on “American Horror Story: Coven"?

The 22-year-old actress was cast in the third season of the FX miniseries in late May. Her boyfriend since spring 2012, Peters, has been a star on the show since its start in 2011.

TMZ reports that on July 7 Julia Roberts’ niece got into a physical altercation with her 26-year-old boyfriend in their Montreal hotel room. Fellow hotel guests called the police to report a fight in their room, and, when the authorities arrived, they discovered Peters with a bloody nose and an alleged bite mark. Roberts was arrested but released a couple of hours later after Peters refused to press charges.

News of the arrest broke early this week, leading a rep for the actors to release a joint statement to People magazine: “It was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding. Ms. Roberts was released after questioning, and the couple are working together to move past it.”

A source close to the couple told Us Weekly that their romance is “pretty extreme” and “very passionate.” So will “American Horror Story” viewers see Roberts character channel that energy with her beau on screen?

Roberts will be playing Madison, who is described as a “young and sexy Hollywood-actress type.” While no other details about her role have leaked, show co-creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed that the third season will have a big romance, “young star-crossed lovers element,” to it. Although it’s unconfirmed whether Roberts will play a part in the big romance, her boyfriend’s season one love interest, Taissa Farmiga, definitely will. Since being added to the cast, it’s been speculated that Farmiga and Peters will once again find themselves romantically involved on screen.

“Coven” is set to be about witchcraft in modern day but is set to feature some flashbacks to another time. Taking into account the witchcraft and the “star-crossed lovers element,” one theory about the new season is that a woman scorned might evoke some sort of revenge on her former lover -- or her beau’s potential new lover.

Fortunately, it seems like the couple won’t have to deal with anything too awkward between them on the “American Horror Story” set, because another source told Us Weekly that they’re not breaking up. “When they are good, they are crazy in love,” the insider explained.

Roberts and Peters were spotted on the New Orleans set of “American Horror Story” on Tuesday. Photos obtained by the Daily Mail show the actress sobbing while being embraced by her boyfriend.

Season three of “American Horror Story” premieres in October. What are your thoughts on Roberts and Peters new characters in “American Horror Story: Coven"?
