Oh Cookie, you’ve done it again. Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) looks like she has more fun in store for her love life. The latest “Empire” Season 2 news suggests Cookie will be finding attention from someone other than her ex-husband Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Malcolm DeVeaux (Derek Luke).

SpoilerTV announced Adam Rodriguez will play a former EMT named Laz Delgado. Hailing from New York, the emergency caretaker will be just what the doctor ordered for Cookie. An unnamed producer described the character as, “a smooth-talking concert promoter with expert hustler skills.” Cookie better not get burned in Season 2.

If Adam Rodriguez looks familiar, that’s because the dashing actor starred alongside Taraji P. Henson in Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” Rodriguez has also done stints on other network dramas including “The Night Shift” and “CSI: Miami.” “Empire” fans looking for their first peek at the new Cookie love interest can find Adam Rodriguez in the new “Magic Mike XXL” movie coming to theaters on July 1.

Last we saw of Cooke, she was still deciding whether or not to return to her ex, Lucious, after he broke his engagement with his then-fiancée Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey). After determining Lucious was no good for her, Cookie moved on to Malcolm DeVeaux, the head of security for Empire Records. Perhaps the addition of Rodriguez’s character hints that her two previous potential suitors don’t quite work out.

The new 18-episode Season 2 will air in two parts beginning in September. Previous teases hinted at even more drama ahead for the Lyon family and more musical guest stars to come. Taraji P. Henson will have a busy summer ahead of her, filming “Empire” Season 2 and co-hosting the Guys’ Choice Awards on Spike with Terrence Howard.

“Empire” Season 2 begins Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
