When "Empire" Season 2 begins the Lyon family will be pitted against each other. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray), Andre (Trai Byers) and Anika (Grace Gealey) will continue their attempt at a hostile takeover of the record label, while Jamal (Jussie Smollett) tries to hold the fort down for Lucious (Terrence Howard) who's in jail for murder. Could Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei's guest starring character, Mimi Whitman, also be making a run for the Empire throne?

TVLine had revealed an exclusive first-look at Tomei as Whitman in a photo with Henson. The photo can be seen here.

Empire showrunner Ilene Chaiken told TVLine that Tomei's character is a "thrilling" addition to the second season of the Fox musical drama and will also be a lesbian. Chaiken said Mimi is "one of those very, very rich people who thinks that it would be really fun to own a movie company or to own a music company."

According to Deadline, Tomei with have a multi-episode story arc on the drama. Fans can also catch a glimpse of Whitman in a recent Season 2 teaser, which can be seen below.

Aside from Tomei, "Empire" Season 2 is expected to be loaded with guest stars. People reports that pop diva Mariah Carey will be on the show at some point this season. Rev. Al Sharpton and former editor-at-large for Vogue, André Leon Talley, will reportedly appear in the premiere episode. Other big names expected to cameo include Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Kelly Rowland, according to E! Online.
