Empire Season 3 episode 3 synopsis
Mariah Carey will star as Kitty, a singer helping Jamal (Jussie Smollett) overcome his insecurities and get back to music, on Season 3, episode 3 of “Empire.” Fox

Fans will finally get to see Mariah Carey in action on the next episode of Fox’s “Empire.” The “Obsessed” singer will make her debut in Season 3, episode 3, titled “What Remains Is Bestial.”

A synopsis for Wednesday’s show teases that Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) asks Kitty (Carey) for help with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett). In episode 2, Jamal told his parents that he was done performing because of his post-traumatic stress disorder. “[Cookie hopes] that recording a new song with the mega superstar will force Jamal to overcome his inability to perform,” the synopsis (via TV Guide) reads. According to Entertainment Weekly, Carey and Jamal will record a track called “Infamous.”

The synopsis also says that “trouble strikes” when things don’t fall into place for Andre (Trai Byers), who was arrested at the end of episode 2. In a sneak peek of Wednesday’s episode, Andre is in court when a judge tells him that he’s been charged with assault against a police officer. However, it looks like someone may have set Andre up.

Episode 3 will also be the debut of Romeo Miller’s character Gram, a rapper who becomes Tiana’s (Serayah) new love interest and Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) rival. The role of Gram was originally supposed to go to Kid Cudi, but the rapper left the series over “creative differences.” Romeo, who appears on WEtv’s “Growing Up Hip Hop,” revealed his involvement in the show via an Instagram post a few weeks ago.

Another storyline fans can look forward to on the next episode of “Empire” is Cookie and Angelo Dubois’ (Taye Diggs) romance starting to heat up. “Empire” co-producer Carlito Rodriguez dished to Entertainment Tonight about Cookie’s new love interest, saying that Angelo is going to have to step his game up a bit if he’s serious about pursuing Lucious’ (Terrence Howard) ex. “With a woman like Cookie, I think that anybody who’s trying to woo Cookie and trying to get at her — whether it’s Angelo, Laz in Season 2, Malcom in Season 1 — is really going to have to step their game up,” Rodriguez said. “And not because Lucious us so formidable, she’s her own woman and I think that anybody who wants a serious relationship with Cookie Lyon is going to have to bring their A-game.”

“Empire” Season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
