FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Employment has decreased by 19.000 persons in Canada in December, for its first time in seven months, while the unemployment rate remains steady at 5.9%, according to the latest Labour Force Survey published by StatCan, the Canadian Statistics Office.

Over the whole 2007 year, however, employment has increased 2.2%, with a total job creation of 370,000 new employments, figures quite similar to the 2.1% increase on employment posted in 2006. 2007 has been the fifteen consecutive year to show improvements on employment in Canada.

Wages continued increasing in December posting a 4.9% rise year-on-year, well above the 2.5% CPI increase.
