The doctors group Australian Medical Association has warned that mixing energy drink and alcohol is leading to pub violence and drink driving.

It called for a national debate on the impact of the dangerous cocktail to health to come up with a solution to the problem.

AMA vice-president Steve Hambleton said the debate on whether energy drinks should be available or not and in what quantity should involve health experts and parliamentarians, who should fund the debate.

Hambleton believes that sale of energy drinks should be restricted if they had a negative impact on consumers.
