Eric Foster yells to his teammates as he is carted off the field Monday after dislocating his ankle.

Eric Foster, who left the Indianapolis Colts' loss Monday night after gruesomely dislocating his right ankle, will have surgery and miss the rest of the season, Colts coach Jim Caldwell told reporters after the game.

Foster spent Monday night in a Tampa Bay hospital after the Colts lost to the Buccaneers. He was injured just before halftime in the loss, when he became tangled up with Colts defensive end Tyler Brayton and his ankle twisted sideways.

Many of his defensive teammates stood or kneeled on the field in shock, hands over their eyes and fighting back tears as Foster was carted off the field. He did give some signs of encouragement when, as he was carted off, he pumped his chest and yelled out to his teammates.

Hours after the game ended, Foster tweeted another sign of encouragement.

Thank u all 4 such kind words, he wrote. I thank u Lord in Advance. Women around the world gettn treated 4 cancer. May God have mercy on all o us.

Colts owner Jim Irsay also tweeted that Foster could remain in the Tampa hospital for a couple of days.

Eric is resting comfortably at Tampa hospital, n good spirits, he'll b home 2 Indy n a couple days, Irsay wrote.

Video of the injury is below, but you need not watch if you are squeamish.
