Ethel Anderson, a former teacher from Riverside, Fla., was sentenced to 38 years in prison on Monday. The 31-year-old married woman was found guilty of having sex with a 12-year-old boy who is now 14. Anderson taught at Mango Elementary School and was a language arts teacher.

The young man testified at Anderson’s trial, saying, “I didn’t want to lose my virginity to a teacher.” She had been tutoring him at her home for four or five weeks before she began to kiss him and perform oral sex on him, the boy testified in September. She also was his first grade and fourth grade teacher. “I felt like she was a girlfriend, I loved her and she said that I was her boyfriend and she loved me. She would rub on my legs, kiss on my ears, neck and stuff like that... We would tongue kiss,” he said.

Prosecutors found more than 200 pages of sexual text messages between the teacher and the victim, who had a three-month relationship. Anderson said the messages were “sexual therapy” to motivate the troubled student.

At Anderson's sentencing, the victim’s mother expressed her feelings: "'Anger and hatred don't even begin to explain how I feel about what you took from my son,'” she said in a statement read at the sentencing. “His innocence is lost forever.”

Anderson cried as her long sentence was handed to her by the judge. She had previously rejected a plea deal of 15 years in prison.
