The euro area's current account deficit widened in April on the back of the widening trade deficit as the rising euro and slowing global growth is starting to hit the area's exports.

The current account deficit in the area widened to 5.1 billion euros in seasonally adjusted terms from the revised deficit in March of 3.0 billion euros from 4.7 billion euros reported originally. In non-seasonally adjusted terms the current account deficit widened to 5.6 billion euros from the revised 2.0 billion euro deficit in March from 3.8 billion euros shortfall originally reported.
