The 16-nation currency staged a steep slide against its major opponents on Friday before commencing trading in New York. The euro slumped to a 7-day low of 129.39 against the Japanese yen, 9-day low of 1.3295 against the US dollar and a 2-day low of 1.5204 against the Swiss franc by 7:55 am Eastern Time. The single currency also declined to 0.9302 against the pound by this time. As of 8:10 am Eastern Time, the euro was quoted at 0.9314 against the sterling, 1.5217 against the franc, 129.89 against the yen and 1.3322 against the greenback.
