The European single currency spiked up further against most of its major counterparts in New York mid-day deals on Thursday. At present, the euro is trading near new multi-day high of 1.3513 against the US dollar, 1.5277 versus the Swiss franc and 134.13 against the yen. The euro also ticked up against the pound and currently worth 0.9163.

The European central bank lowered its key interest rate to 1.25 percent in early morning today. Economists had expected the ECB to lower the rate by a half point.
