FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Retail trade volume of the countries belonging to the Euro Area has recovered in January returning to positive figures month-on-month, from the monthly decrease posted in January, although they have edged down in relation to January last year.

Retail sales have grown 0.4% in January from December, with food, drinks and tobacco sales increasing 0.6% on the month, and non food products growing 0.4% from December.

Compared to January 2007, sales have posted a 0.1% decrease, with food tobacco and drinks decreasing 1.0%, and sales on the non food sector increasing 0.4%.

January's figures follow a 0.1% monthly decrease on sales posted in December, and a 1.8% yearly fall, which has been revised down by the 2.0% decline released previously.
