FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Euro Zone's inflation has remained unchanged at very high year on year levels in December, with education, transport and food posting the highest upward pressures, according to data by Eurostat.

Inflation at consumer level has remained steady at 3.1% year on year, well above the ECB's 2.0% target for price stability, and above the 19% increase rate posted in December 2006.

The main upward pressures to annual inflation came from education; 9.4% up on the year, transport, 5.6%, and food, 4.8% up, while communication, recreation and culture and clothing.

On the month CPI increased 0.4, as expected with recreation and culture posting the highest monthly increase, 2.3%, followed by hotels and restaurants, 1.1% up, and food o.7% up.

Excluding food and alcohol, core CPI rose 1.9% on the year and 0.4% on the month.
