FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The volume of retail trade has deceased in a larger than expected extent in the Euro Area in October, weighed by substantial decreases on non-food sales, according to the latest report by Eurostat.

Retail sales have decreased by 0.7% in October from September, with sales of non-food products decreasing by 1.1%, while food product sales fell 0.2% on the month.

Compared to October 2006, retail sales have grown 0.2%; food, drinks and tobacco sales have grown 0.6%, and non food sales edged up 0.1% on the year.

October's figures have been weaker than expected, as the market analysts had advanced a 0.3% monthly decrease and a 1.2% yearly rise.
