The European Commission assured today its support for the Greek plan and fiscal measures proposed by Prime Minister George Papandreou's government to rein in budget deficit which is the highest in Europe. The Greek program encompasses the rise in fuel duty and freeze of public sector pay.

The Commission said although the goals of the program could be achieved, there will be difficulty in its implementation. Actually, EU officials will follow the progress witnessed by the program, where deadlines are going to be put for reviewing the advancement.
