Eva Longoria has confirmed her relationship with Miami-based entrepreneur Ernesto Arguello in an interview with People magazine, just three months after denying they are a couple. The actress, best known for her role in the situation comedy “Desperate Housewives,” had earlier said Arguello was only a friend when rumors of their relationship started making the rounds.

“I think that’s why our relationship is so special -- we truly started as friends,” Longoria, 38, told People.

The actress even took to her Twitter account to share the news with her more than 6 million followers on Thursday:

The couple met last year when Arguello, 34, was cast in the reality-television show “Ready for Love,” which was produced by Longoria. But the relationship is said to be getting serious, and Longoria has already met Arguello’s entire family during a recent trip to his native country, Nicaragua.

“I guess we have the press to thank for pushing us to see something we didn’t see!” Longoria told People.

A friend of the couple told the magazine that Longoria and Arguello are perfect for each other because they have similar backgrounds. “They both speak Spanish, have the same religion and the same cultural background,” the source said. “Their friendship and their similar philanthropic interests laid the foundation for their new romance. They’re very much in love.”

According to People, Longoria recently visited the homes and schools Arguello built for the betterment of the underprivileged in his native country.

Longoria was previously married to NBA star Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011.
