Forget irreconcilable differences, actress Eva Mendes claims to know the true reason behind America’s sky-high divorce rate. When asked to describe her personal style during a recent interview, Mendes shared her belief that women who wear sweatpants are putting their romantic relationships at risk.

“I don’t really like pants. I mean I will wear them, figuratively and literally, but I feel much more comfortable in a dress or a skirt,” Mendes told Extra TV Wednesday, describing her look as “feminine.”

When asked about her feelings regarding being “lazy” and dressing down at home, the "Hitch" film star and 41-year-old longtime girlfriend of fellow actor Ryan Gosling said sweatpants are a big no-no in her everyday life.

“No, no, no! Sweatpants, No,” Mendes said shaking her finger and confirming she “never” wears the cozy attire. “You can’t do sweatpants, no! Ladies, the number one cause of divorce in America -- sweatpants.”

Prior to dishing about her views on wearing sweats in front of her actor beau, Mendes spoke out about her daughter Esmeralda she shares with the "Drive" actor. Six months after welcoming their bundle of joy, Mendes said she is more appreciative of her mom than ever before.

“Now I understand so much, my mother’s never gotten more ‘I love you so much mommy’ texts,” Mendes shared. “If you look at my text history, it’s all [about] how much I love her and just random.”

And with half a year of motherhood under her belt, Mendes said she is finally getting a good night’s sleep. “I’m actually starting to sleep. I’m at a good place,” she said. While her daughter has finally stated sleeping through the night, Mendes did admit that Esmeralda does make the occasional hiccup. “Why does it always at 3 or 4 in the morning?” Mendes joked when talking about being woken up by her baby in the middle of the night.

Despite Mendes and Gosling remaining relatively mum about their baby prior to her arrival in September, the couple has been open about sharing details of their personal life in recent weeks. On Monday, Gosling, 34, dished to E! News about parenthood at the screening of his film “Lost River” at SXSW in Austin, Texas. “It’s just an exciting time. It’s really nice,” he said.
