Contestants Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty both walked away as the first-ever winners of The Glee Project. Their grand prize includes seven episodes on Season 3 of Glee. Both winners are very capable to hold their own on the series, as they are great singers and actors. Creator and producer, Ryan Murphy, should not have a difficult time writing characters for Larsen and McGinty.
However, finalists, Alex Newell and Lindsay Pearce did not walk away empty handed. Instead, they were given the chance to also appear on Glee with two-episode arcs.
One of the contestants final tasks was to put together a last chance performance. They were able to chose any song. Lindsay chose to sing Gimme Gimme from the musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Alex decided to dress in drag for his I Am Changing performance from Dreamgirls. Samuel sung Dolly Parton's Jolene, and Damian sung Beyond the Sea, by Bobby Darin.
During the final deliberation, Alex and Lindsay were eliminated first. Glee singer and actress, Charice Pempengco, tweeted: I don't watch The Glee Project but that guy Alex Newell, he's really good, he have such a voice. I'm surprised he didn't won. lindsay of Glee project can be the next Rachel..just annoying..! a fan tweeted, expressing disappointment.
Ryan Murphy explained to the remaining two that Samuel had the it factor while Damian was the cast favorite. Samuel was selected as the winner first, but then Damian was offered the same prize as well. Murphy then extended the two-episode role to the other finalist and then everyone was happy. Its a win-win!
