Former WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw turned herself in to Atlanta police Thursday and is being held for assault after allegedly firing a gun at her ex-girlfriend and smashing her car with a baseball bat.

Holdsclaw turned herself in, reports the Associated Press, after an altercation with her ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lacy, earlier in the day. Holdsclaw followed Lacy to her car and fired a gun at it, and then proceeded to smash the windows with a baseball bat, reports the AP.

Holdsclaw was the number one overall pick by the Washington Mystics in the WNBA Draft in 1999. She had a notable basketball career and was a member of the Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. team in 2000. While Holdsclaw had plenty of success on the court, she suffered from depression off the court which eventually led to a suicide attempt in 2006, according to The Washington Post.

Holdsclaw retired from professional basketball in 2010. Since retiring, Holdsclaw has been a public speaker, discussing mental health issues with students, reports Channel 2 Action News.

Lacy was a former teammate of Holdsclaw in the WNBA. During the 2009 season, Lacy and Holdsclaw played for the Atlanta Dream. Lacy currently plays for the Tulsa Shock.

According to WKRN, Lacy said Holdsclaw attacked her car with a bat, smashing the driver's side window. After that, Holdsclaw pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the passenger side door.

Police issued a warrant for Holdsclaw's arrest, and she surrendered herself around 9 p.m. local time, reports The Atlanta-Journal Constitution. She is being held on a $10,000 bond and is being charged with reckless conduct, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Holdsclaw also may have poured gasoline into Lacy's car while Lacy was working out. Holdsclaw proceeded to follow Lacy until she pulled over, leading to the altercation.
