Whether you know it as Chi-town, the windy city, or just Chicago, there is no debating that there is a lot to do in the vibrant city. Be it shopping, exploring, or cultural experiences -- avoid the L and ensure a wonderful stay at a hotel with a great location. I have three outstanding recommendations, and would love to hear reader comments on these properties or other suggested great hotels in the city.
The Raffaello Chicago is a modern boutique hotel located right in the heart of the city. Each guest room has been beautifully renovated with warm tones and a European feel. Conveniently close to the Raffaello are the Magnificent Mile, Hancock Tower, and Lake Michigan. The Mag Mile gets its name for the endless amounts of luxury shops, restaurants, banks, and boutiques that line this district. After a long day of shopping and exploring it will be nice to return to a king size bed with Egyptian cotton bedding and goose down duvets. The hotel itself has more to explore including a rooftop speakeasy you'll love called Drumbar and Pelago Ristorante an Italian/seafood restaurant that will hit the spot after a long day of sightseeing!
In the heart of the Mag Mile an excellent option is the Trump Chicago. Nearby the Art Institute of Chicago, luxury retailers, and Navy Pier you are a short walk from a leisurely afternoon in the Lurie Gardens or attend one of the many outdoor concert series in Pritzker Pavilion. Don't forget the beaches at Lincoln Park as well. For more information on events taking place in the city visit the Trump Calendar. Of course, beyond its location, the Trump Chicago has plenty to offer right at home. On most of the 92 floors you are staying on you can enjoy high city views and unparalleled amenities. This pet friendly hotel offers 24 hour in room dining, wireless internet access, large relaxing terraces, as well as all day concierge services. There is also the option to access the re-energizing Trump Spa, as well as the option to dine at award winning restaurant Sixteen.
The James Chicago is the perfect hotel for either the business traveler or the leisure traveler. Just steps away from Michigan Avenue, where the majority of the Mag Mile shops are located. It is an ideal boutique hotel for those who want to travel, but also remain environmentally conscious. The James has recently renovated their rooms, but instead of trashing old furniture, it has invested in reinventing these pieces. They also provide eco-friendly pillows from Keeta in all guestrooms. Being located within walking distance to the Museum of Contemporary Art and Millennium Park also keeps with the ongoing green theme. With all of the options of outdoor exploring why not try the Beach Service? Head to Oak or Ohio Street beach for the day and receive a tote with organic sun tan lotions, flip flops, lip balm, and boxed lunch from Primehouse, as well as a beach umbrella and reclining chairs.
