“The Exorcist” just cast Brianna Hildebrand for the second season of the Fox series.

According to Deadline, the “Deadpool” actress will play the role of a foster child named Verity, who is being raised by Andrew Kim (John Cho). The latter is a former child psychologist who is now running a home for children who are at risk. Andrew will reach out to Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) and Father Marcus (Ben Daniels) when one of his children at the foster home is targeted by a powerful force.

“The Exorcist” Season 2 will most likely introduce a slew of new cast members in the coming weeks since majority of the actors who starred in Season 1 will no longer be back. No one from the Rance family is set to return to Season 2 since the first season was set to be a standalone installment. However, Father Tomas, Father Marcus and Brother Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) will remain as series regulars until “The Exorcist” wraps up.

While speaking with Deadline in December, executive producer Jeremy Slater explained their decision to let go of Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey and Hannah Kasulka. “My goal was then that this first season needed to tell a story with a beginning, middle and an end and that story was the possession of the Rance family,” he said.

However, Slater also hinted on the possibility of the Rance family members returning to Season 2. But if this happens, they will only appear in select scenes. “My general response is that the characters that survive tonight’s finale and still have interesting stories to tell – you will absolutely see them again in the future if we have one. Partially because I think we’ve created a big and exciting world with a mythology that we barely begun to scratch the surface of…” he said.

Meanwhile, Hildebrand, a relative newcomer, according to TV Line, first appeared in the movie “Deadpool” as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. She is set to reprise her role in “Deadpool 2.” She also starred in “First Girl I Loved” and will appear in “Tragedy Girls.”

“The Exorcist” Season 2 will premiere on FOX on Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. EST.
