With every second ticking by, the chances of Family Radio President Harold Camping being denounced as a false prophet are becoming stronger and his followers are visibly devastated and their faith shaken.

Camping had prophesied that the End of the World would come on May 21, 2011 at 6 p.m. Basing his prediction on Bible verses such as Genesis 7:4 (“Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth”) and 2 Peter 3:8 (“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”), he said 200 million people will witness Rapture while the remaining will be left behind to witness the destruction of the earth which will be complete by October 21, 2011.

The destruction would come about through a series of natural disasters, including violent earthquakes which would make the Japan’s earthquake look like “a Sunday school picnic in comparison”.

There were a few earthquakes in different parts of the world on Saturday, but none of the magnitude that Camping had predicted. While Japan’s earthquake was registered at 9.0 magnitude, none of the earthquakes on Saturday were able to cross the magnitude of 5.2.

As slowly it became clear that Camping’s prediction was once again going horribly wrong (he had previously predicted that the World will end on September 1994, but it was “business as usual”), he managed to give the media the slip and hasn’t been spotted since last night.

Repeated attempts by IBTimes to gain information on the whereabouts of Camping failed even as one of his followers at the Family Radio headquarter threatened to assault one IBTimes reporter as he approached him to ask some questions.

The person who tried to assault the IBTimes reporter looked visibly dejected and disturbed. “I want to be left alone,” the person told the IBTimes reporter. Was it because it was becoming clear that Camping’s prediction is going to fail?

Camping was not also found in his home in Alameda, CA. The radio evangelist had earlier said that he would be watching TV and listening to the radio at the appointed time.

Where is Harold Camping? Will he be able to muster the courage and acknowledge before the public that his prediction was false, or will he forever remain in hiding? Or will he give an excuse that he has miscalculated the dates again (In 1994, when Doomsday did not come to pass, Camping said he had made an error in his calculation)?
