Tragedy struck the set of "Falling Skies" Season 5 when a security guard was killed. TNT

TNT’s “Falling Skies” is in the middle of filming its fifth and final season, an achievement worth celebrating for the cult hit sci-fi show. But the show has had to halt production temporarily to deal with an unexpected tragedy, the death of a crew member. During filming Monday night, a security guard for the set was killed by a rolling truck, according to Deadline.

The accident reportedly occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the “Falling Skies” Vancouver production set. The truck had been left unattended on a slope and rolled downhill, pinning the guard between the tailgate and a tree. Police in Canada are investigating if there was something mechanically wrong with the truck. The name and age of the guard have not been made public.

TNT released a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and on behalf of the producers and TNT, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the security guard.”

“Falling Skies” halted production for now, but will resume filming soon. The fourth season of the Steven Spielberg-produced drama ended in August, and fans are eagerly awaiting the new episodes. Season 5 is scheduled to premiere next summer and consist of 10 episodes.
