Breakout star Allison Tolman sets her sights on New Girl and The Walking Dead Chris Large/FX

“Fargo” fans hoping to see one of their favorite characters again might be in luck. Allison Tolman could return for Season 2 of the FX series. “I just don’t know,” Tolman told TVLine. “There’s discussion of there being a second season and it being a brand-new cast; I’m just not sure.”

Tolman played Deputy Molly Solverson in the crime drama, but “Fargo” writer Noah Hawley told us last month at the ATX Television Festival that the story of Molly and Gus was over. Hawley explained, “I felt like we would be letting the movie down by saying, ‘tune in next season for the wacky continuing adventures of Molly and Gus.’ It says at the beginning of every episode, ‘This is a true story.’ And it just would not feel true to have: ‘Well that was a crazy case, but look what happened to her next.’”

Hawley mentioned that a second season could have different characters in the same universe. Maybe the show will take a cue from “Doctor Who” and give Molly a distant relative who happens to have the exact same face. “Fargo” could also take on the style of “American Horror Story” and use the same actors for different characters each season, allowing us to see Tolman as a new character every year.

Tolman seems like she would be happy to return. “Being my first experience making a television show, it was really special. I was very well taken care of. I loved the people that I worked with. It was really a blessing,” she said.

It might be a while before audiences find out if Tolman will return to their screens. “Fargo” still has to be renewed by FX for a second season.
