While “The Walking Dead” continues to surprise its fans in Season 6, the minds behind the hit zombie drama are already getting people excited for the April 10 return of its companion series “Fear the Walking Dead.” With the show’s Season 2 return just around the corner, the network is finally giving fans a bit of information about what they can expect when the series returns.

Although most of the promotional materials for Season 2 highlight the cliffhanger teased at the end of Season 1, life on the water, it now seems there will be a small road of trials ahead of the group before they finally make their way to the Pacific Ocean. In a press release from AMC accompanying the below poster for the new season, it is revealed that, when we pick up with our intrepid heroes after all this time, they won’t immediately be on the water. Instead, they’ll still be holding out hope for rescue in L.A. behind the walls of Victor Strand’s (Colman Domingo) gated estate.

That’s right, it seems that Season 2 will pick up very close to the time in which audiences left them in Season 1. For those that need a refresher, the group had just left the National Guard’s outpost in the city, but had to shoot Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) after she was bitten during their daring escape. Strand showed off his luxury yacht, Abigail, but it seems the group didn’t make a beeline for the water. This might end up being a good thing for them, as showrunner Dave Erickson explains that they’re not just messing around when it teases “no safe harbor.” He promises that, when they get on the water, they’ll encounter new threats, and the reason why may be surprising.

“So we will encounter people that have different agendas than we do out on the water. And then when we try to escape those dangers and go to land, we’re going to encounter people who are interested in trying to get to sea as well,” Erickson told Entertainment Weekly. “And the great thing about our yacht the Abigail — we’ll come to learn in the first episode that there are a lot of great elements to this boat that would make it attractive to people. And that’s going to become a problem as we move forward as well.”

He stopped short of explaining what the big appeal of the yacht is, but it’s possible that it’s a coveted item simply because it’s gigantic. As previously reported, the Season 2 teaser trailer showed the survivors encountering a group of refugee-looking survivors that were packed onto a small raft. It’s possible those aboard will recognize the value of a multi-room ship like Strand’s in the zombie apocalypse. Then again, the character has shown in the past that he cannot be underestimated, meaning there could be something even more valuable aboard the yacht than the vessel itself.

Fans will just have to wait until the show returns on April 10 to reconnect with the survivors. In the meantime, keep up on the web series "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462” to get to know the new character that will be joining the cast of Season 2.
