Fear the Walking Dead
“Fear the Walking Dead” characters Madison (Kim Dickens) and Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) will need to decide how much they’re willing to risk to rescue their family members from pirates in Season 2, episode 5. AMC

After the shocking events of last week’s episode of AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead,” the group is fragmented with two of its members in some pretty severe, albeit unknown, danger. In episode 5, titled “Captive,” they’ll see how far they’re willing to go in combating human beings in order to save each other.

When the Abigail was boarded by some con artists and pirates led by the mysterious Connor (Mark Kelly), they decided that Travis (Cliff Curtis) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) were the most useful to them and took them off to parts unknown. Meanwhile, the remainder of the Abigail crew were left for dead. Luckily, they managed to subdue their attackers, even leaving one alive as a bargaining chip.

This, according to a teaser trailer, is where things will pick up in episode 5. After acting like a spectacularly maniacal pill, the pirate Reed (Jesse McCartney) was wounded pretty badly, but he’s still kicking as the group’s prisoner. However, he warns them that Connor won’t take kindly to the loss of his men, and that he’ll come looking for him. The group has already demonstrated that they’re well-armed, well provisioned and highly crafty. As a result, there’s not much that Madison (Kim Dickens) can immediately do to rescue her daughter and Travis. But that won’t stop her from trying.

According to the episode’s official plot synopsis from AMC, while Alicia tries to find a way to escape the confines of her current situation, Madison will enlist the help of her son Nick (Frank Dillane) on a daring caper to reunite the entire family before they continue their trip to Mexico. Meanwhile, Travis will face his own trials in captivity as he encounters a familiar face. It’s unclear at this time if it’s someone the audience has previously been introduced to or if it will be someone from his past before the apocalypse.

It’s ironic that Madison is willing to let her son join her in this very dangerous mission, especially given her attitude toward Strand for sending Nick away previously. After Strand (Colman Domingo) gave the drug addict a top secret job to go on shore and find his associate that will get them into Mexico, Madison is furious.

In a sneak peek video for the epsiode, Strand tries to explain to her that Nick’s addiction makes him well-suited for this world, but she plays the mother card and tells him that he doesn’t get to decide what’s best for Nick, she does. Apparently, she’s decided that getting some weapons together and taking on a band of murderous pirates falls under the category of what’s best for him.
