During the latest episode of AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead,” the group’s members abandoned the not-so-safe confines of their luxury yacht only to find potential new dangers in Mexico while trapped in the tensest alliance of their lives. It appears things will come to a head quickly in Season 2, episode 7, titled “Shiva.”

After the group finally made it to Victor Strand’s (Colman Domingo) alleged safe haven in Mexico, they soon discovered they’re now outnumbered, outgunned and at the mercy of people who believe becoming a zombie is the next phase in humanity’s spiritual evolution. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Strand went ahead and upset everybody by killing Thomas Abigail (Dougray Scott), the son of group leader Celia (Marlene Forte). The next episode’s official plot synopsis teases that the group will face its greatest test to stay together yet, as circumstances work to fragment its member.

As a preview teaser of the episode notes, the group will split up after Strand’s gunshot rings out across the camp. Travis (Cliff Curtis) is frantically looking for son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) after he went missing, even as Travis displays some downright murderous intentions toward Madison (Kim Dickens) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Meanwhile, it seems Strand will be called to account over his alleged crimes by Celia and her people. Additionally, Daniel (Rubén Blades) and his propensity for snooping finally catches up with him as the teaser shows him getting beaten and tied up by Celia’s men.

It’s unclear what prompts the men to restrain Daniel, but it may have something to do with a teaser of the coming episode in which he attempts to take daughter Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) away to safety after the gunshot rings out. However, when she has trouble keeping up with his old-man pace, he asks her what’s wrong and she replies by peeling off a large chunk of her cheek. If that appears to have come out of left field, it’s because it has.

Have the survivors been poisoned by their new hosts? Is Ofelia exhibiting some bad symptoms of her gunshot wound infection? Is this an elaborate dream sequence that Daniel is having due to fears he can’t keep his only daughter safe? To find out, fans will have to tune in to “Fear the Walking Dead” on AMC Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT.
