When “Fear the Walking Dead” returns to AMC next month, the cast won’t only have to deal with killer water zombies but also people desperate to get their hands on Victor Strand’s (Colman Domingo) boat, the Abigail. Travis (Cliff Curtis) and the group also seem hesitant to trust Strand.
When Season 1 ended, the group had decided they would set sail in hopes of finding a safer place that was free of zombies. When Season 2 returns, there will be a slight time jump, according to the Hollywood Reporter. On Saturday at PaleyFest Los Angeles, the cast and showrunner Dave Erickson dished about the new episodes and shared two sneak peeks of the premiere with the audience.
In one clip, the outlet reports that the group is “debating” about Strand because they’re not sure they can trust him to lead them to San Diego. In the second video, Nick (Frank Dillane) is underwater as a zombie is seen floating on the surface.
Erickson explained that the water zombies can’t swim, but they “don’t drown; they keep floating back up.” It’ll be interesting to see how the group fights off the new zombies, but they definitely won’t be the only threat the group will face in Season 2.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Erickson also revealed that there are quite a few people who see how a boat like Abigail could be a necessity. “There’s going to be threats, obstacles and conflicts on sea as well as on land,” he said. “The great thing about the Abigail is they have fairly extensive range. We don’t know when we first hit the water which direction we’re going. Strand has some ideas, but we don’t know how much we can trust those ideas.”
During an interview with the Huffington Post this month, Curtis teased that there are “bunch of people who have the same idea” to head to the water for safety. “I’m having a great time with the new script. There’s no more slow burn,” he added. “That’s done with. And a lot more going on.”
“Fear The Walking Dead” Season 2 premieres April 10 on AMC at 9 p.m. EDT. Currently, “The Walking Dead” Season 6 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT.
