“Fear the Walking Dead” showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg have finally offered details about the characters that will be played by newcomers Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman, and Garret Dillahunt in Season 4 of the AMC series.

Grace plays Althea. Goldberg teased to Entertainment Weekly that Althea’s life before the apocalypse makes her someone who is uniquely qualified to survive the zombie-ridden world. “When we meet her, we’ll find she has, in many ways, picked up right where she left off before the world collapsed,” Goldberg said. “She has a number of impressive weapons in her arsenal, including a curiosity and understanding of people that often gives her a tactical advantage. It’s never something for nothing with Althea.”

Goldberg added that Althea is constantly working toward a greater purpose, which Strand (Colman Domingo) finds interesting.

Elfman, meanwhile, portrays the character of Naomi. According to Chambliss, Naomi is a bit a recluse but has a valid reason why she prefers to be alone. “Naomi’s a capable survivor we’ll meet living on her own early on in the season,” Chambliss revealed. “She’ll have her guard up as she crosses paths with Madison (Kim Dickens) and her family, and — as we’ll learn over the course of the season — she’ll have a very good reason for keeping people at a distance.”

While Naomi is not fond of connecting to other people, Chambliss noted that the new character will form a bond with Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey).

Lastly, Dillahunt joins the series as John. Goldberg revealed that John is a “man of fascinating contradictions” because while he loves being with people, he also spends a great deal of time on his own. “He’s a gentle soul — an innocent in many ways — but is no stranger to violence,” Goldberg added of John. “He can also be soft-spoken and disarmingly funny all at once.”

In addition to Grace, Elfman and Gillahunt, other series newcomers include Lennie James and Kevin Zegers. James reprises his “The Walking Dead” role as Morgan Jones in Season 4 of “Fear the Walking Dead,” while details on Zegers’ role are being kept under wraps.

“Fear the Walking Dead” Season 4 premieres sometime this year on AMC.
