Troy appears to be contemplating suicide in a sneak peek from Season 3, episode 12 of AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead.”

In the video, Troy (Daniel Sharman) is seen sleeping alone on the ground near a small campfire. When the sun rises, it is revealed that Troy has returned to the outpost where he and his team found a half-dead Phil (Rocky McMurray) tied up to a chair in Season 3, episode 5. Troy heads to the same chair and takes a seat. Troy then spends some time looking at the gun in his hand, seemingly thinking about killing himself.

Suddenly, something behind him catches his attention. After Troy finds out what it is, he points his gun into the air and fires off a warning shot.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, Sharman’s co-star Alicia Debnam-Carey revealed that there’s a storm a coming to the ranch. So it’s possible that what Troy sees in the sneak peek is the storm heading its way to the camp.

Troy was exiled from the ranch at the end of Season 3, episode 9. But showrunner Dave Erickson immediately revealed following the show’s two-episode midseason premiere that viewers have not seen the last of Sharman’s character.

Erickson told The Hollywood Reporter that Troy will literally and figuratively haunt Madison (Kim Dickens) and Nick (Frank Dillane) in the remaining episodes of the season.

“Troy is interesting to me because going back to the premiere of this season, for all intents and purposes, he could have been our big bad for the duration,” Erickson said. “I think he started in that respect in episode 1, and then evolved and shifted and developed this strange connection with Madison and Nick. They’re both personally invested in him, and he does represent something in terms of their past sins and the crimes they have committed. He’s the scapegoat. He’s the one who is cast out. As he is cast out, he carries the burden of the things Madison and Nick have done. … The danger of his return, and the fact that he’s still out there … that’s something that does haunt them both emotionally and it will most definitely come back to bite them in the butt.”

“Fear the Walking Dead” Season 3, episode 12, titled “Brother’s Keeper,” airs on Sunday, Sept.24 at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC. Watch the sneak peek below:
