Federal authorities arrested a 26-year old man on Thursday for allegedly selling modified modems that gave buyers free access to the Internet.

Matthew Delorey of New Bedford, Mass., is charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of wire fraud. If convicted, he could face up to 40 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Through the website Massmodz.com, Delorey sold modems hacked with modified Media Access Codes, allowing users to hide their identities and steal service from Internet service providers.

Authorities alleged that Delorey sold two of the modified modems to an undercover FBI agent.

Delorey also posted videos online showing how to get free Internet access through modified cable modems. The services were marketed in Craigslist postings, advertising Massmodz Free Internet - Get free untraceable internet.
