The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has caused quite a stir in the literary world. Yet many have found that they are unfamiliar with some of the terms in the erotic series. Those who aren't aware of words used in the BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, Sadism/Masochism) community may find themselves puzzled while reading some key scenes. Here is a guide to terms used in the steamy books.

Caning: The act of striking one repeatedly with a cane.

Contract: A documented agreement between the dominant and the submissive that clearly states what is expected of each individual. This includes what physical acts can or cannot take place as well as how long they will carry on the relationship.
