Square Enix has released a new update for “Final Fantasy XIV.” Patch 4.2, titled “Rise of a New Sun,” comes with a lot of refinements and new story quests, but what makes it interesting is the fact that it disables skipping cutscenes in dungeons.

As explained in the patch notes published on the “Final Fantasy XIV” website, patch 4.2 does not allow players to skip the cutscenes in Castrum, Meridianum and Praetorium, and there are reasons behind this. First, Square Enix believes that by doing so, new players will get to enjoy the cutscenes in these dungeons. Then, the other reason is it easily increases the time required to complete the dungeons and consequently boosts the rewards that come with it.

“To ensure new players are able to enjoy the cutscenes in Castrum, Meridianum and the Praetorium, all cutscenes in these dungeons can no longer be skipped,” Square Enix noted. “Because this will increase the time required to complete these dungeons, completion rewards and Duty Roulette bonuses for these duties have been increased.”

“Final Fantasy XIV” patch 4.2 also adds new side story quests. For “Precious Reclamation,” players must be Disciple of War or Magic level 70. Another new quest is called “A Thousand and One Farewells.” This also requires players to be at Disciple of War or Magic level 70, and they must first complete “Precious Reclamation” and “Short Arms of Law” to enter this quest.

The new patch also comes with “The Fractal Continuum (Hard)” quest called “An Unwanted Truth.” Players are also required to be at Disciple of War or Magic level 70, and they should first complete the “Stormblood” main quest as well as the original “Fractal Continuum” to get here. The four side quest is “The Fashion Report” quest called “Passion for Fashion” that is open to all Level 15 players and those who have already completed the “It Could Happen To You” quest.

Making patch 4.2 all the more interesting is the appearance of the franchise’s infamous and despicable baddie, Kefka. The male antagonist of “Final Fantasy VI” has apparently returned with the ultimate goal of bringing the world into utter destruction, according to USgamer. So it’s the perfect time for players to gang up on the notorious antagonist and take him down once and for all.
