U.S. stocks rose on Thursday as financials led a broad advance following insurer Travelers' solid quarterly profit and a release of compensation rulings for top earners at financial companies that received government bailouts.

* The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 125.68 points, or 1.26 percent, to 10,075.04. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 10.06 points, or 0.93 percent, to 1,091.46, after rising 1.03 percent to touch a session high at 1,092.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 11.47 points, or 0.53 percent, to 2,162.20.
