RTTNews - Tuesday, the Statistics Finland said in a report that the jobless rate increased further to 8.8% in April from 8.3% in March. Economists expected the rate to be only 8.6%. A year earlier, in April, the rate stood at 6.2%.

During the month, there were 233,000 unemployed persons, up from 165,000 in the previous year.

At the same time, the number of employed persons decreased to 2.4 million from 2.5 million last year. The employment rate for the population aged 15 to 64 moved down to 67.6% from 70% last year.

Meanwhile, the number of persons in the labor force totaled 2.6 million in April, unchanged from last year. However, the labor force participation rate declined to 66.3% from 66.7% in the previous year.
