RTTNews - Tuesday, the Statistics Finland announced that the jobless rate stood at 10.9% in May, up from 8.8% in April. Economists were looking for the rate of 10.6%. A year earlier, the jobless rate was 8.8%.
The number of unemployed increased to 304,000 persons in May from 233,000 in April. A year ago, unemployed was 247,000.
At the same time, total number of employed totaled 2.49 million, smaller than the 2.55 million last year.
In May, total labor force stood at 2.79 million, down from 2.80 million in a year earlier. The labor force participation rate decreased to 69.6% from 70% last year.
