'Five Nights At Freddy's' Freddy Fazbear
'Five Nights At Freddy's' or 'FNaF World' may be getting an update in the near future. Hints on Scott Cawthon's websites tease an argument over opposing views. Is Ennard talking, and who is he talking to? 'Five Nights At Freddy's' is available now. Scott Games/Steam

Five Nights At Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon hasn’t teased much about new games in the past six months, but the drought appears to be over. New source code edits to the ScottGames and FNaF World websites have fans wondering what’s next.

The teases technically first appeared on April Fools’ Day, but have continued since, pointing to a genuine development. It arrives in the form of bizarre argument dialogue between Cawthon’s two main sites. Here’s a summary of the text so far. You can see pieces of it in the source code yourself.

FNaFWorld: "Be quiet."
ScottGames: "You can't tell us what to do anymore."
FNaFWorld: Yes, I can. You will do everything that I tell you to do."
ScottGames: "We outnumber you."

The final exchange between the two unnamed parties is the most recent. Now, as with any Five Nights At Freddy’s teaser, the rest comes down to analysis. There are lots of theories to consider, but we’ve picked out a few possibilities. As fans will know, a man named William Afton is responsible for creating the game’s animatronics. In last year’s Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location, the spirits inhabiting those machines became smart enough to fashion themselves together into a single creature named Ennard, who lives in the body of Afton’s son.

Might this be Afton talking in a losing battle against Ennard? While technically one creature, Ennard could classify as a “we” because he’s made of several parts. It also sounds like this might be the plea of a father trying to tell his son what to do.

Other theories suggest the teaser might relate to some sort of clash between the Puppet and Ennard. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 tells players the Puppet has some means of control over animatronics. By saying, “You can’t tell us what to do,” Ennard may be fighting that established influence. Whatever the rationale, there’s clearly a feud of opposing opinion going on.

Beyond word splicing, the real question that remains is what this means for the future of the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise. Is this a tease for the next main game in the evolving saga, or is FNaF World simply being updated with Sister Location characters? With Ennard possibly involved, both scenarios seem equally likely. We assume Scott will be offering more details over the next few weeks or months. Suffice to say, given Cawthon’s past habits, it’s probably about time for him to release something new.

Five Nights At Freddy’s is available as a game franchise, novelization and a developing Hollywood film.
