As promised on Sunday by Dong Nguyen, the developer of the popular game Flappy Bird, the game has now been removed from both Android and iOS app stores, even though many believed that Nguyen's threat might be a mere publicity stunt and that he would not actually take the game offline.

Flappy Bird, which was reportedly generating $50,000 in advertising revenues a day, remained the most-downloaded free app on Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) app store for almost a month. But, Nguyen recently expressed his frustration over the unwanted attention he was receiving because of the sudden popularity of his game. Flappy Bird was released last May, but it began gaining traction only recently.

“Press people are overrating the success of my games. It is something I never want. Please give me peace,” Nguyen tweeted last week. And, in a series of tweets on Sunday, the developer said that Flappy Bird’s removal was not due to legal issues and that he was not interested in selling the game. He also said that he would continue to make games. Nguyen also said that while the game was “a success" it “also ruined his simple life” and that he now "hates it.”

The bottom line is that the original Flappy Bird is no more, but there are many other similar games to choose from in the app stores. It is hard to say if users will find them as appealing, but here's a list of 10 Flappy Bird clones if anyone's interested in trying them out.
