Danielle Panabaker has addressed the apparent tension between Caitlin and Iris in the Season 3 premiere of “The Flash.”

After six months of being away from Team Flash, Caitlin (Panabaker) agreed to help Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) to get Barry (Grant Gustin) out of the Speed Force. When she saw Joe for the first time since leaving S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin immediately asked for his forgiveness for all the things that she had done to him and to his girlfriend Cecile (Danielle Nicolet). Although Joe didn’t tell Caitlin that he’s forgiven her, the police detective gave her a hug, which seemed to be enough for her.

Caitlin got a warm welcome from Joe, but the opposite was the case when she’s reunited with Iris (Candice Patton). While Iris was airing her disappointment over Cisco’s decision to get Barry out of the Speed Force behind her back, Caitlin chimed in and defended Cisco.

“I don’t know, Iris. I think we were pretty close,” Caitlin said.

“I’m sorry, ‘we?’” Iris responded coldly. “Where have you been the last six months again?”

Clearly, Iris is upset that Caitlin decided to leave S.T.A.R. Labs after they defeated Savitar at the end of last season. While Iris still hold grudges against Caitlin, it seems that latter understands where the former is coming from. Panabaker recently told TVLine that Iris and Caitlin understandably have “a lot of feelings” about what happened during Savitar’s reign of terror, “but hopefully there’s some healing that can be had as well.”

Despite the tension between Caitlin and Iris in the season premiere, Patton revealed to Entertainment Weekly last August that the two will actually grow closer this season.

“We’re definitely going to see Iris’ relationship with Caitlin especially developed this season, which we haven’t seen before, which will be really nice for fans,” Patton told the news outlet. “Fans have been wanting to see more female dynamic on the show, and there will definitely be that. They’re working closely together. Caitlin has been through so much herself in relationships, and I think if anyone can offer advice, it would be her, so she’s there quite often to give Iris advice on her relationship with Barry and how to move forward.”

“The Flash” Season 4 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
